Under 6s and 8s - Mid Season Update
By Andrew Bell, Under 6 and 8s Coach
It is amazing to think we are about halfway through the season already, as it seems like only yesterday we were getting into pre-season training for the first time. This year has been a year so far that can be summed up by 1 key word – GROWTH. With the inclusion of Under 6s for the first time, we have seen the ranks of our youngest players in the club double compared to this time last year.
We started the season with players covering the whole spectrum of ability. Experienced players who have been playing for a couple of seasons through to players who had only picked up a footy a few weeks ago as part of Auskick. It has been exciting to see the skills of our youngest players, along with their confidence, grow with each passing week. Each week we are also seeing our ranks swell as our players get excited and want to share that excitement with those around them.
We’ve been fortunate to have a large number of home games in the first half of the season, which has seen us well supported by family and friends. In fact, from watching games on a Saturday morning, helping with the range of tasks needed to make home games successful to assisting with practice on Thursday afternoons, it has been fantastic to see the way so many family members are pitching in and getting involved. The support, encouragement and enthusiasm from families has been another key to how well our year has gone to date! At the midpoint of the season, it is exciting to see how far all of our players have come, growing in their skills and the way they work as a team.
As we enter the second half of the season and return matches against clubs, it’s going to be exciting to see the continued growth in skills and efforts. There is plenty of exciting football ahead along with many opportunities for fun and involvement for players and families alike. We’re excited to see how the second half of the season progresses and the end of season Under 8s carnival promises to be a huge highlight given all the growth and promise we see currently!
Keep up the fantastic work and let me encourage all the club to check out the energy, excitement and enthusiasm of our youngest players each Saturday morning!
Andrew
